Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

Pre-Operative instructions for I.V. Sedation

Please follow these instructions to prepare for oral surgery with IV Sedation.

Modern I.V. Sedation is a safe and pleasant technique for dental treatment. However, there are certain criteria that must be followed prior to your procedure. We ask that if you need to reschedule or if you cannot keep your appointment that a 48 business hour notice be given so that we may serve other patients in need of care.

You will need to bring a driver at least 18 years of age who will stay at the office during the entire time of the procedure.

BEFORE TREATMENT

  • You are to have nothing to eat or drink for at least eight (8) hours before your procedure. This includes water!
  • Please wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes. We request that you wear a short sleeve top (as we need to start an IV) with loose sleeves and a loose neck line (we need to attach EKG leads). No fingernail polish.
  • Have soft foods (ie. soups, pasta, mashed potatoes, jello, etc) ready at home.
  • If you normally take medication (for blood pressure, diabetes, or any other reason especially BLOOD THINNERS) please verify with our doctor as to how you are to take these before your appointment.

***You must arrange for an escort to bring you and take you home after the procedure. **

Your escort must stay at our office throughout your procedure.

  • You will receive a call or text from our office the day before your appointment as a reminder of your appointment.

AFTER TREATMENT

  • You must not drive an automobile or participate in activities for 24 hours after surgery.
  • You need to have a responsible adult, over 18 years old, who will stay with you for 24 hours after surgery

If you have any questions about your pre-operative instructions, please call our office so there is no confusion about your procedure.
